Good Start aims to help new students find their way in CIT by focusing on belonging, success, motivation and independence; the whole student experience. The Good Start series of events and activities help new students become familiar with the campus, settle in, meet new people, get prepared for study and find out who’s here to help along the way.
Good Start is run by students for students. The Good Start Ambassadors are a team of current students who want to make the transition to CIT a positive experience for new students. The Good Start Ambassadors help new students settle in, become familiar with the campus, meet people, get prepared for study and find out who’s here to help. Each member of the team has been in first year here once, they know what it’s like to be new, their aim is to help first year students settle in to college both socially and academically. This year we have twelve Good Start Ambassadors across a range of CIT courses and year groups. Get to know this year’s team on goodstart/ambassadors
Each week Good Start will focus on a different theme to help you settle into life at third level, the themes this year are Finding Your Feet, Belonging, Getting Down To Work and Striking A Balance. In line with these themes there will be a variety of academic and social activities so there will definitely be something that tickles your fancy; from Carnivals to Soccer Tournaments, Breakfast Sessions to Exhibitions and even Just Ask! help desks in case you need a point in the right direction. There will also be weekly competitions where students can win a whole host of prizes so keep your eyes peeled, if you're not in you can't win. The full listing of events can be found at goodstart/events
A main element of Good Start is the Just Ask! campaign. Just Ask! is a series of pop-up help desks and communications to help answer the questions new students have now that they've arrived in CIT. The Good Start Ambassadors run the Just Ask! desks and there is no question too big or small for our team, and if they don't know the answer they will find out for you. The Just Ask! campaign also offers tailored Just Ask! sessions hosted by different services in CIT, such as Just Ask! about IT, Just Ask! about the Library and Just Ask! about study. Remember there is no need to be shy and there is no such thing as a silly question.
Good Start also has an active and vibrant social media presence which highlights Good Start activities as well as the many existing and excellent student supports that are available. To find out about Good Start activities online follow CIT on social media and visit goodstart
