Attendance is hugely important at third level, as it is very easy to fall behind in classes, especially if you are not familiar with the content. You simply cannot rely on your notes from Canvas, as they will often not contain enough information for you to understand your course material.
If you pay attention in class, you may be surprised by how much you can cut your study time later on. No textbook can explain something to you like another person can. A lecturer will always give clarification and offer insights into the material you're studying. Time in class is one to two hours during which you are actively thinking about the material and practicing it.
You learn through a step by step gradual experience, your understanding is strengthened by stacking and scaffolding your learning piece by piece - so go to class!
Missing class due to illness/obligations:
Occasionally, you may have to miss a class due to illness or an important obligation. It is crucial you email your lecturer in advance to let them know you will not be able to attend. If you miss a continuous assessment, you must have a medical cert and be re-assessed.
