In-lecture Coaching Workshops:
Throughout the academic year, the Academic Success Coaching team offer bespoke workshops to class groups. These can be requested by a lecturer or class/year co-ordinator. We tailor these workshops to the requirements and interests of your class groups, and welcome your input and suggestions on the content and format of each session. Workshops cover themes including but not limited to group work, time and resource management, study planning, motivation and assessment planning. If you would like to organise a tailored workshop for your class group(s), please get in touch at academicsuccesscoach@mtu.ie.
Check out our brief coaching introduction here
On completion of a tailored coaching workshop, a student will typically have:
- engaged in a facilitated discussion on an agreed, pre-determined aspect of personal and/or academic development such as, for instance, motivation, time management, study planning, assessment management, etc.;
- engaged with a selection of coaching exercises designed to promote awareness of and evoke effective, personalised strategies in this skill or theme;
- reflected on their agency as learners, such that actions for success are contextualised, individualised and relevant.
Coached study:
Throughout the academic year, the coaching team will be running coached study sessions. You can find information about and join these sessions from this webpage. We'll also notify subscribers to our mailing list of times and dates for coached study sessions.
Coached study represents an opportunity for you to identify a priority or set of priorities and make a workable plan to achieve them. You'll have a chance to get your priority tasks underway and afterwards, you can debrief with and get feedback from coaches on your progress and next steps.
Coached study may be for you if you are currently working on numerous tasks or if you have an important piece of work to complete. It's also a practical way to get started on a task and to make a plan that will work for you.
On completion of a coached study session, you will typically have:
- identified an immediate goal or a task to be completed;
- completed a coaching exercise themed around motivation, activation, goal-setting or planning;
- commenced work on the priority goal or task during a dedicated 30-minute period;
- had an opportunity to follow up with a coach in a group setting;
- possibly been signposted to a one-to-one follow-up coaching session, where desired.
