Dr Marian Hurley
I’m from Cork and I have an academic background in Modern Languages and Cultural Studies. I’ve worked in Higher Education for 15 years and before joining MTU, I designed and taught programmes on academic skills, covering writing, research, presentation and discussion in academic settings. I also have extensive experience in working with students on a one-to-one basis. Having worked with many university students over many years, I have a strong understanding of the challenges and opportunities of Higher Education from the student’s perspective. I regularly work with students on establishing their academic aims and prioritising and planning their study, recognising the importance of understanding what will work best for each individual. I’ve been told that I’m good at working both with the larger context and finer details, and at facilitating students to manage their studies effectively.

I really enjoy meeting and working with students, helping them take action steps and make decisions in my role as a coach in MTU. I have a varied career in banking, sales finance, social enterprise and Youthreach. I have worked for AIB, RBS, Twitter and Foodcloud, and held coaching roles previously with Cork ETB, UCC, and The HSE. My interest in coaching led me to complete a master’s qualification in Coaching Psychology and I am a member of the International Coaching Federation as well as the British Psychological Society.
