Each week Good Start will be running a variety of activities and events to help you settle into college life, check out the weekly listings to see what is going on and what you might like to get involved with.

Throughout the first five weeks there will be a variety of academic and social activities run by the Good Start team so there will definitely be something that tickles your fancy; from Carnivals to Soccer Tournaments, Breakfast Sessions to Exhibitions and even Just Ask! help desks in case you need a point in the right direction. There will also be weekly competitions where you could win a whole host of prizes (be honest who doesn't love free stuff) so keep your eyes peeled, if you're not in you can't win.

Week 1 - Finding Your Feet

Week 1 is Finding Your Feet week. Sports Day and Societies Day will happen this week so be sure to sign up to some clubs or societies. Maybe nominate yourself or one of your friends to be your class rep? Make a plan each day to speak to someone new, these are the people you will be spending the next few years with so be sure to put your best foot forward.

Everyday

Tuesdsay

Classes begin, be sure to attend as your lecturers will be covering course content straight away.

Wednesday

Sports Day will be held today in the Nexus, Student Centre. Sign up to some sports clubs, you'll meet lots of interesting people. 

Thursday

Societies Day will be held today in the Nexus, Student Centre. Sign up to some societies; there are loads to choose from you'll be spoiled for choice. 

 

 

Week 2 - Belonging

Week 2 is Belonging week. The focus this week is on helping you make connections and settle into the CIT community. Last week you signed up to a variety of club and societies, signing up is one thing but going along is what will help you become part of something. So go to class and talk to the person sitting next to you, go along to the club and society meet ups and attend some of the many Fresher's Week events on. Have fun!

Its CITSU Fresher’s Week run by the Students Union in collaboration with Good Start! There will be events on throughout the week at lunch time in the Nexus Student Centre, for full listings check out the latest copy of Explicit.

The ALC learning support sessions will begin this week. 

Tuesday

This morning there will be a Re-Fresher’s Breakfast for all new mature students in CIT held in the West Atrium. Are you a Mature Student? Call over to meet other students, get some study tips and a free breakfast at 8.15am. 

Wednesday

Official Good Start Carnival Launch happens today in the Nexus Student Centre. This years carnival style event will be fun, exciting and really get you off to a Good Start at CIT! The main act for the Carnival are LORDS OF STRUT! Looking forward to seeing you there! This event is run in collaboration by Good Start, CIT Arts Office and CITSU. 

The Fresher’s Soccer Tournament begins today which in run in collaboration by CIT Soccer, Good Start and CITSU. Visit the Astroturf pitches to see some of the action and cheer the teams on

Friday

Its Culture Night in Cork! Pop along to some of the many events that will be happening throughout the city, check out the programme on http://culturenightcork.ie/ 

Week 3 - Getting Down To Work

Week 3 is Getting Down To Work week. This week help will be on hand from the Academic Learning Centre and Academic Success Coaches, where extra help is available for those who are finding the transition into third level study a bit difficult. Be your own person and take responsibility that this time in college is yours to make the most of. If you are already thinking about the long term why not visit the Careers Fair on this week and check out whats on offer to graduates?

Monday

Student Services Expo will happen today in the Main Corridor. Meet the Student Services Representatives and refresh your memory on what is available to you as a CIT student.

Tuesday

Careers Day will be held today in the Nexus, Student Centre. Explore what future opportunities await once you graduate, its never too early to start thinking long term. 

Wednesday

The ALC will have an info desk in the Main Corridor today, call over and chat to find out what is on offer. Remember ALC offerings are all free! 

Thursday

Good Start will be running a number of competitions each week, Thursday is the final day for entering each week. Get your entries in before its too late. Call to the Just Ask! desk for details.

Week 4 - Striking A Balance

Week 4 is Striking A Balance week. Now that you are a few weeks in you should be getting more used to juggling classes, study, socialising, staying healthy and working. This week will focus on encouraging you to find the right work / life balance. Success in college is all about finding a balance!

Monday

The Careers Service are offering drop in sessions to offer help with CVs, Job Hunting and Career Advice. Call up to the Careers Office for more information.

There will be A Healthy CIT Cooking Demo today in the Demo Theatre in CIT with lots of quick and easy healthy meal ideas for keeping healthy while cooking away from home. Free entry and tasters for all attendees.

Tuesday

The Sports and Recreation students are offering free exercise classes this week and next week. Call to the Just Ask! desk to see the full line up and book your spot.

Wednesday

The Arts Office invites you to the opening of an Art Exhibition in the James Barry Exhibition Centre this evening. (link to http://arts.cit.ie/)

Thursday

Almost Half Way There Breakfast! The Good Start closing event will be held in the West Atrium before classes begin this morning. Can you believe that next week marks the half way point in the semester? Free breakfasts, games and prizes up for grabs, see you there!
